An integral part of the mission of NANNPU is to provide educational opportunities for members, other NPs, and consumers. Educational opportunities will be in the form of Medical Newsletters, Conferences, updated information on other educations events. NANNPU may provide opportunities for discounts on some outside educational events.
Continuing Education Requirements for the Texas Board of Nursing
General Requirements: 20 hours of Continuing Education is required ever two years for re-licensure. For additional information, please go to the Texas Board of Nursing.
Controlled Substances CE: This is required of all APRNs with prescriptive authority who order/prescribe controlled substances for every licensure cycle after January 1, 2015. The controlled substances CEs can be either continuing nursing education or CME category 1.
Gerontology CE: This is a two-hour requirement for APRNs who practice in gerontology, whose practice includes care of elders, or whose practice could reasonably be expected to include care of elders. This is required of required in every licensure cycle after January 1, 2014 and will count towards the 20 contact hours every two years for re-licensure. The Gero CE can be either continuing nursing education or CME category 1.
Jurisprudence/Ethics CE: This is two-hour combined requirement of all nurses, including APRNs. It is required in every third licensure cycle beginning January 1, 2014 and will count towards the 20 contact hours every two years for re-licensure. The Jurisprudence/ethics course must be approved for nursing CE, not CME
